“ I wanted to start this review out with a question. Have you ever entered a building that made you feel like you were in a Trojan horse? This is the exact comparison I made in my head when I sat at a bar stool in Oswego's precious little gem "Scoreboards Sports Pub". It looks somewhat plain, if not boring from the outside. The windows have decorations of the Blackhawks and Bears, which were nice touches, but the sign in front looked like that on a strip mall Chinese joint, not a sports bar. After entering this bland on the outside pub, my mind was blown as I walked through the doors. This is when the Trojan horse metaphor emerged in my mind, because this was absolutely not what I expected when I looked at the outside. I was greeted by a sign instructing me to seat myself, so I said "yes ma'am," and did just that. I was pretty close to being troubled with my seating decision, because there were so many tables and their 60-70 some odd foot bar was as lengthy as any bar I had seen. Although we arrived at Scoreboards around 3:30 pm on a Monday, it was still somewhat "poppin'" for such a peculiar hour at a bar. My associates and I seated ourselves at the extensive bar, and were rapidly greeted by a lovely bartender. And boy do I mean LOVELY. She seemed like the type of girl you could throw some ice cold pitchers back with and then go see a ball game. It was safe to say, I had a crush. All of this considered, I didn't want to let her beauty distract my decision making when it came to the next food I would shove down my gullet. After looking at the menu, and seeing the plethora of items that were all mouth watering, I had to decide between a cheeseburger and chicken wings, which were only 50 cents from 2-4 pm yesterday. After going back and forth and ripping my hair out over this major decision in my life, I went with a cheese burger. Let me correct myself. I went with THE IN-AND-OUT BURGER! This is a burger shoved full of cheese and then topped with even more cheese. I placed my order with the bartender and eagerly awaited what was to come. After a short wait, which seemed like an eternity because of all the excitement I had built up inside me, my food had arrived. I could tell right off the crack of the bat, I had made the smartest choice of my life, at least as of recently. I constructed my burger with some of the shredded, crunchy lettuce that came in the side and separately ate the crisp pickle medallions that came on the side. I tried a few of the fries that came on the side, which were perfect "pub spuds". Piping hot, nice and crispy, and potato-ey all at once. Ketchup wasn't even needed, but I had to try it to keep it fair with all the condiments. I finally was ready to dive in to the burger that sat before me. I picked it up and juices dripped, but not in an off-putting way. It was glistening under the lights of the bar, and I felt as if I was picking up my newborn child for the first time. I took my first bite, getting cheese and who knows what else all over my bearded chin and cheeks. The American cheese oozed red, white and blue (not literally but patriotically). With every bite, cheese splooged into my mouth, every taste getting better than the previous. I was afraid to put it down because I didn't want to deconstruct the pretzel bun before I was finished. That mindset led me to the final bite of this burger, and sorrow spilled into my heart. I didn't want it to end, but it had to. I ate the last bite and washed it down with some Pepsi (I know, sure it's not Coca-Cola, but nothing was going to kill my burger high so it sufficed). Soon after, we made our return into the humid, summer air and we left. I was torn between giving this place 4 or 5 stars, because a Danny Fries 5 is a difficult feat to achieve. It's up there with the likes of the Michelin award, one of the most prestigious awards in the restaurant business. I was so torn over this decision that I had to sleep on it, and I woke up this morning with a clear mind. Scoreboards is a wonderful joint, but in the end I had to go with my gut and give it a 4 star rating. I was blown away by the food and the service, and I would preach to all you fine citizens to attend this safe haven at least once in your life. I will be a returning customer, no doubt about that. And finally, although the waitress' name escapes me, I hope that one day you will read this and find me. Thank you Scoreboards Sports Pub for the unforgettable experience. Keep this experience up for everyone, and Guy Fieri will be in your kitchen in no time! -Fries ”
